I'm Christopher Baker, a New England stone craftsman and artist.
Long before I ever thought about making a career out of it, I was fascinated by the way landscapes tell a story. An old stone wall disappearing into the forest. A weathered oak standing alone in a field. A stream that has shaped the land for generations.
I've always believed the best landscapes don't look designed. They feel like they've always been there.
That's what I try to create.
I design and build custom dry stonework, water features, gardens, and landscapes that fit the property they're built on. Every piece of land is different, and I enjoy figuring out what makes each one unique before I ever start designing.
Some projects are large. Some are small. Sometimes it's a stone wall. Sometimes it's a garden or a water feature. Sometimes it's helping someone see the potential in a property they've owned for years. Whatever the project, I enjoy the process just as much as the finished result.
I also founded Blackbird Arboriculture & Stewardship. Working as an ISA certified arborist has changed the way I think about crafting the land. Spending so much time looking at trees, soils, water, and the way landscapes change over time reminds me that good design isn't just about today. It's about creating something that still feels right years from now.
When I'm not working, I'm usually out enjoying nature with my wife and our animals. Together we founded Home at Last Farm, a miniature horse and donkey rescue. Caring for animals and caring for the land have always gone hand in hand for me, and both have shaped the way I approach my work.
If you're thinking about making changes to your property but aren't sure where to begin, that's okay. Some of my favorite projects have started with nothing more than a conversation and a walk around the property.
Although I'm based in New England, I travel throughout the United States for the right project. Whether you're restoring an old property, building something new, or looking for a landscape that feels like it belongs, I'd love to hear what you have in mind.
Thanks for stopping by.
Chris
